    Dear Sir or Madam,

We need your generosity this Christmas to help bring joy to at-risk children in central Santa Ana. Through your participation in KidWorks’ 14th Annual Christmas Store event, you will ensure that over 400 children from low-income families have a very merry Christmas.

As many of you know, the Christmas Store was born out of the realization of supporters like you that for the families living in the at-risk neighborhoods of Santa Ana, Christmas can often be a painful season.  Many families are in a desperate financial struggle – and have had to rely on free handouts, which can be embarrassing for parents. To help restore dignity, donors like you make it possible for KidWorks to host a toy-store where parents can shop for their child’s gifts at a very affordable price, just 10-20% of the actual retail value. The small proceeds from the store go into a benevolence fund that helps meet some of the emergency needs of families we serve during the Christmas season and beyond.

Will you consider hosting a toy drive to stock the KidWorks Christmas Store with gifts for the children in central Santa Ana?

If you want to be involved, simply place a box at work, your local church, or with your community group to collect new, unwrapped toys between now and December 9th.  You can promote your toy drive using the enclosed flier. We will arrange to pick-up toys on December 7th-9th between 10am – 3pm, or they can be dropped off at KidWorks anytime before the morning of December 13th.

Please contact Melissa at (714) 834-9400 ext. 115 or melissa.peralta@kidworksoc.org to get more information or to let us know that you are hosting a toy drive.  Thank you for your support of the children of Santa Ana, and Merry Christmas!

On November 1, 2016, the Orange County Bar Association and Thurgood Marshall Bar Association will present a very important program entitled Fair Housing Laws and Policies: The Historical Seeds of Segregation and How They Continue to Impact Us Today.

This program presents a rare opportunity to hear from the nation’s leading experts on critically important issues that impact us all.

Richard Rothstein has worked as an education policy analyst and written a number of books on the interplay between race and class in education policy.  One of his recent works, The Making of Ferguson, received critical coverage by The Washington Post, The New York Times and other publications. He was also featured on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

As I am sure you know, Erwin Chemerinsky is a leading constitutional scholar and the Founding Dean of the University of California, Irvine, School of Law, and needs no introduction.

This program will include a historical review of the causes of segregation, the inequality that persists today as a result of the historical seeds of segregation in residential housing, why and how segregation in residential housing still affects us today in all facets of society and what we can do to address these issues.
