    BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF LONG BEACH WELCOMES SNELL & WILMER ATTORNEY STEFFI GASCÓN HAFEN TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
     
    LOS ANGELES (March 29, 2018) – Snell & Wilmer is pleased to announce that Orange County and Los Angeles attorney Steffi Gascón Hafen has been elected to the Board of Directors for Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach. Her term began on March 15, 2018.
     
    Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach (BGCLB), comprised of 11 distinct facilities across the city, has been helping underprivileged youth reach their full personal and academic potential since 1939. In an effort to ensure that members achieve great futures, the BGCLB provides the Five Core Youth Development Initiative, which focuses on Good Character & Citizenship, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, the Arts and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. The BGCLB has served more than 225,000 youth, ages 6-18 in its 78-year history.
     
    Hafen is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law, California Board of Legal Specialization. At Snell & Wilmer she is a member of the firm's Private Client Services and General Federal Tax practice groups. Hafen's practice is concentrated in tax, trust and estate matters with emphasis in estate planning, trust and probate administration, and estate and gift taxation. She employs advanced estate planning techniques, including grantor retained annuity trusts, family partnerships, limited liability companies, charitable remainder trusts, defective grantor trusts, insurance planning, public charities, and private foundations. She also advises clients regarding succession planning for closely held businesses. In addition, Hafen has experience in state and local taxation, including income taxation, sales and use taxation, and property taxation, as well as issues regarding residency and domicile. Hafen also represents clients in front of the Franchise Tax Board, the State Board of Equalization, and the Internal Revenue Service. She works with clients' certified public accountants, financial planners and other service providers to provide holistic solutions to clients’ needs.
     
    Hafen received her L.L.M. in Taxation from Loyola Law School, her J.D. from the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law and her B.A. from University of California, Santa Barbara. She has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Orange County Hispanic Bar Association since 2013 and became a Board Member of Orange County Head Start in 2016. Hafen is also an Attorney Member of the Orange County Estate Planning Council.

    Please be advised that the California Supreme Court’s Applicant Evaluation and Nomination Committee (AENC) is seeking qualified candidates to serve as judges for the State Bar Court. The AENC is seeking applications for the position of Presiding Judge of the Court (a position that will also serve on the Review Department) and two Hearing Court Judges.
     
    Applications are due no later than April 20, 2018 at 5:00 pm.

    The Public Law Center invites you to be part of our naturalization project by volunteering your time as a legal volunteer at our upcoming Citizenship Fair.  Legal volunteers will help clients prepare citizenship applications. Your legal screening will provide clients with a sense of confidence about applying for naturalization.

    Naturalization Training:

    Training is for legal volunteers participating at our naturalization fairs in 2018. You must be an Attorney, Law Student, DOJ Accredited Representative or paralegal to take this training.

    In person training will be provided on Tuesday, March 27, 2018

    LOCATION: Western State School of Law

    Wyndham Anaheim/Orange County Justice Center

    The California Judicial Competition (CJC) is a statewide YMCA Appellate Court competition program, taking place in Anaheim, CA and is hosted by the California YMCA Youth & Government in partnership with several Southern California Law Firms.  2018 is the inaugural year for the competition.

    This program brings together high school students from around the state to face off in an appellate court competition. Teams of two will compete against their peers in Moot Court trials as well have the chance to show off their understanding of the case and case law as justices.

    In order for this event to offer true court simulation, attorney and law school student volunteers are needed, that’s where you come in! Please see below and indicate when you would be available and interested in volunteering.
