Hague Convention Case Training

On October 2, 2018, Judge Julie A. Palafox conducted a free training on the Hague Abduction Convention. Guest speakers included Jim Bacin, District Attorney with the Orange County District Attorney's Office and Corrin M. Ferber, Director of Office of Legal Affairs for Overseas Citizen Services, Bureau of Consular Affairs, Department of State. More than 90% of these cases involve custody cases from Mexico and usually the parent who fled needs an attorney. The 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction is a legal framework for courts to use to return a removed or retained child to the country of his or her habitual residence.
